Passenger anger at first aid wait

Handling staff at East Midlands Airport have been criticised for the way passengers injured on a transfer bus were treated.

Passenger John Dwyer was being taken to the airport terminal after a BMI flight from Malaga earlier this month.

He said the bus braked sharply and several people were hurt but were not given first aid until they had walked through Passport Control.

The airport has apologised and said an investigation was under way.

A spokesperson added that the transfer of passengers was the responsibility of the airline and handling company and handling staff were employed by that company.

'Sudden halt'

BMI said it extended its deepest regrets and apologies to passengers affected by the incident while travelling in a Menzies bus to the terminal.

Bus company Menzies said customer safety was paramount at all times.

A spokesperson from the firm said they would be prepared to take disciplinary action if the driver was found to be at fault.

Mr Dwyer said: "The sudden halt that this bus came to resulted in lots of people falling to the floor. I was hanging on to a vertical pole which bent under the impact of myself falling forwards.

"These incidents will happen but the issue for me was the airport staff did not seem to know how to deal with it.

"It doesn't matter to me who is responsible but someone needs to get a grip of it.
