Police issue notices to licensees

Police are urging pub landlords and licensees across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales to understand what their licences actually involve.

It comes after officers carried out spot checks on 16 premises in Buxton, Ashbourne and Matlock as part of Operation Relentless.

They issued eight warning notices, two closure notices and two notices for having too few door supervisors.

The checks were done with the help of an environmental health officer.

The problems they discovered included not displaying required notices or not ensuring customers left the premises with respect to nearby residents. More serious breeches of licences included not having CCTV systems in working order.

Licensing Officer, Pc Sandra Barlow, said: "It's disappointing that some supervisors and licence holders are not aware of what their licence means and the regulations they have to meet."

The spot checks will continue throughout the area until 27 July 2008.
