Airport reports record passengers

More than half a million people travelled through East Midlands Airport in May - a rise of more than 10% on the same time last year.

A total of 534,690 passengers passed through the airport, the first month in the airport's history to count more than half a million travellers.

Penny Coates, the airport's managing director said the figures were "remarkable", bucking industry trends.

She added May was the 26th month of increasing passenger numbers.

"This is evidence that passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands appreciate the convenience, comfort and ease that we offer to get their journey off to a great start," said Ms Coates.

About five million passengers use East Midlands Airport every year.
