Another chance to save Playhouse

Derby Playhouse

Another bid may be made to rescue the troubled Derby Playhouse.

The theatre has been closed for several months after going into administration with heavy debts.

The Arts Council had demanded the return of £1m in funding but after a legal challenge officials have agreed to set aside the claim for now.

The theatre trust said it would now look at ways to reopen the Playhouse. But any plan will have to be approved by the administrator and creditors.

Joint artistic director Stephen Edwards said: "We were dead, if the Arts Council had succeeded, whereas now we are crunching the numbers and we've got a fairly high-powered team of finance advisers working alongside us.

"And they're beginning to make more and more positive noises."
