Police action on school run row

Parking problems at a Derbyshire school have become so serious that police have been asked to intervene.

Parents dropping off children at Arkwright Primary School have blocked entrances for coaches, parked on pavements and even on a roundabout.

Letters were sent about the dangers of such behaviour but problems have persisted and police are investigating.

Officers will carry out checks at peak times and have promised further action if necessary.

PCSO Abi Lee of the Middlecroft Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "These drivers are risking the safety of their own and other parents' children by parking on pavements and around the school roundabout.

"Because of the congestion outside the school, coaches have had to resort to parking outside the village shop.

"This means that children and teachers returning from out-of-school activities have to walk through cars which are often parked in a way that restricts the view of pupils crossing the road."
