Neighbours warned over loud noise

Noisy residents in South Derbyshire are being warned to be considerate after council officers confiscated stereo equipment from a house.

Environmental health officers were called to a house in Woodville last week when neighbours complained loud music was making their walls shake.

After witnessing the disturbance, officers confiscated a stereo, turntables and a speaker system.

The equipment will now stay with the council for 28 days.

Jack Twomey, environmental protection manager for South Derbyshire, said: "Once again we used powers under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 against someone who had no thought or consideration for their neighbours.

"When we received a complaint about loud music coming from a property we tried to persuade the resident to stop, but they continued to play excessively loud music, especially at night and the weekends.

"Inconsiderate neighbours be warned - if you cause a noise nuisance, your equipment can be taken away."
