Repair work begins on busy road

Repair work to a busy Derbyshire road that has been closed in one direction for more than a year has started.

Engineers shut one carriageway of the A517 Ashbourne Road at Blackbrook near Belper last year after monitoring revealed a dip in the surface.

The wall, road and pavement collapsed three days after the routine check.

During the work, the road will be closed for 10 weeks with diversions in place. The county council said drivers must allow extra journey time.

The repair project involves rebuilding a section of a retaining wall as well as the collapsed road and pavement.
