Man admits dumping waste in kiln

A north Derbyshire man has been given a community punishment order for filling an old lime kiln with rubbish.

Joseph Bagshaw, 57, from Sterndale Grange, Buxton, admitted dumping waste there for 30 years at a hearing before magistrates on Thursday.

Environment Agency officials found various items, including a fridge and microwave at the kiln in Hurdlow Town.

He was given an 80-hour community punishment order and ordered to pay £800 in costs.

The court was told window frames, paint tins and assorted builders' waste had been found at the kiln.

Mr Bagshaw admitted he had dumped waste and allowed another person to do the same at the site.
