Work start delayed at tyre plant

Workers at a tyre factory in Cumbria have been waiting to hear whether work will resume after their extended festive break.

A leak in a high-pressure steam system at the Pirelli plant in Carlisle meant that production could not start again as planned on Thursday.

The company said it was reviewing the situation on Friday.

In November it was announced that staff faced a reduced working week after a drop in the demand for tyres.
