Fire kills 30 lemurs at sanctuary

A blaze killed 30 lemurs as it ripped through an animal enclosure at a park in Cumbria.

The fire destroyed the wooden buildings that were housing the creatures at South Lakes Wild Animal Park in Dalton.

The cause is currently under investigation by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesman for the fire service said he believed the lemurs, which originated from Madagascar, had died from smoke inhalation.
