Pub raiders flee empty-handed

Thieves fled empty-handed after being disturbed while trying to steal a safe from a pub in Cumbria.

Police said four men were involved in the attempted raid on the Pooley Bridge Inn at Lake Ullswater in the Lake District on Friday morning.

After being disturbed they made off in a car which was found nearby on Broom Street.

Cumbria Police said they were looking for the men, one of whom had a Liverpool accent, in the Penrith area.
