Tree-planting volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to take part in a £40,000 tree-planting project in the Lake District.

In recent months 11,000 trees have been planted to create new woodland areas in Caldbeck and Uldale Common.

But the Lake District National Park Authority said a small number of saplings had not survived and new trees would need to be planted.

Volunteers will meet at Burblethwaite on 22 November. The project is also backed by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

Newly planted areas of Charleton, Roughton Gills and Burblethwaite will also be fenced off for the next 15 years to allow native broadleaf and juniper trees to thrive.
