Crackdown on reckless motorists

Police have begun a crackdown on speeding and anti-social driving in a Cumbrian town.

The move comes after a survey in Wigton revealed residents believed reckless driving was the town's biggest problem.

Officers say they will now increase mobile speed traps on main routes and carry out stop checks to make sure vehicles are roadworthy.

Motorists will also be given advice on responsible driving and how to maintain their cars.

Insp Don Allen, of Cumbria Police, said: "We are regularly getting complaints of anti-social use of motor vehicles and speeding in the area.

"This behaviour is of great concern to the local community and it will not be tolerated."
