Fells blaze ignited by lightning

Grisedale Pike fire

A large area of grassland went up in flames after lightning struck a mountainside in the Lake District.

Firefighters and mountain rescue volunteers spent three hours beating the blaze into submission after being called to Grisedale Pike, near Keswick.

Park rangers and forestry workers also helped extinguish the fire, which burned about 1,200 sq metres of grass.

The blaze, which broke out mid-afternoon on Sunday, was brought under control by early evening.
