Death crash man's name released

Police have released the name of a motorist killed in a crash in Cumbria.

William Neil Springthorpe, from Newton Street in Ulverston, was driving a Ford Focus, which left the road and crashed into a tree.

Despite efforts by paramedics to resuscitate him, the 40-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, on the A595 near Askam-in-Furness.

Anyone who witnessed the crash on Monday morning is asked to contact Cumbria Police.

Officers also want to speak to any drivers who were travelling along the A595 from Dalton towards Askam between 0500 GMT and 0600 GMT, even if they did not see the collision.
