Charges over horse death at fair

A man has been charged over the death of a horse at the annual Appleby Horse Fair in Cumbria.

Ian Deer, from Dymchurch, in Folkstone, was arrested in Kent by officers from the Cumbria force and the RSPCA, in connection with the incident in June.

The 21-year-old was later charged with Section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

He will appear at Eden Magistrates' Court, in Penrith, on 28 November.
