Concern grows over missing walker

David Winder, from the Hilton area of Appleby, Cumbria, has not been seen since he went out for his regular walk on 22 March.

Despite a series of searches no trace of him has been found.

A police spokesman said that while realistically the chance of finding him alive was now slim, the police had not given up all hope.

Cumbria Police are working with mountain rescue teams, caving experts, an RAF helicopter and the public in a bid to locate Mr Winder, whose birthday was on Tuesday.

Insp Lee Skelton said: "We are concentrating our efforts on the area where he was last seen, but this has also been extended to cover a huge amount of ground, with help from mountain rescue teams as far afield as North Wales and Southern Scotland.

"While we cannot discount anything until we find Mr Winder and bring this to a resolution there is nothing to indicate foul play at this time."

"The chances of finding him alive are slim, but we have not given up all hope of finding him."
