Body of man recovered from pond

Police in Cumbria are trying to trace the last movements of a man whose body was discovered in a pond.

A lifeboat crew was called to help recover the badly decomposed body of Nigel Vater, 48, which was found at Barepot in Workington on Friday.

Cumbria Police said Mr Vater was wearing several layers of clothing. A backpack was also recovered.

A spokesman said the body, which had been in the water for some time, could have washed up from the River Derwent.

The spokeswoman said a workman raised the alarm after spotting the body in the water.
