No postal vote in county election

Postal vote Cumbria County Council says it will use traditional polling stations and ballot boxes in the forthcoming elections.

The council had considered running an all-postal ballot at the county council elections on 5 May.

Councillors made the decision in light of widespread expectation that the Government will call a General Election on the same day.

If this happened, the council would have to abandon the postal ballot and return to ballot box voting.

Tim Stoddard, leader of the county council, said: "Postal voting might have been an interesting exercise for the forthcoming elections, but it was just not worth risking £150,000 paving the way, when there is a strong chance that a General Election will be called on the same day."

However, the council says that individuals will have the option to vote by post by arrangement if required.
