Man, 95, killed in gas explosion

Leslie Graham

An elderly man has died after a gas explosion at a house in Warwickshire.

Leslie Graham, 95, died in hospital after being rescued from his home in Shipston Road, Stratford-upon-Avon.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said he was found with head and chest injuries when he was rescued from the house by fire crews on Tuesday afternoon.

His daughter, Jeanne Hallworth, said she spoke to him while he was trapped in the house. "I could hear him on the other side of the door," she said.

"It was obvious that he was on the floor, but I couldn't get into him and I just called to him that I would go and try and get some help."

Mr Graham had insisted on using three Calor gas heaters in the house because he thought he was saving money, his daughter added.

She said she hoped others would take extra care with gas appliances in the cold weather.
