Business park scheme on display

Plans are going on display for a proposed £500m technology business park on an old airfield site near Coventry.

Proposals for the Ansty Park development would create up to 7,000 jobs, Advantage West Midlands, which owns the site, said.

Telecommunications firm Ericsson would have 850 staff there next year once building work has been finished in May, the regional development agency added.

Plans were being displayed at The Ansty Club, Grove Road, Ansty, on Tuesday.

Drawn up

The site's original outline planning permission was agreed in the 1990s.

After a review of "site opportunities and potential needs of major companies looking to move" there, a revised outline planning application for a larger area was drawn up, Advantage West Midlands said.

The scheme was developed in partnership with Rugby Borough Council, Coventry City Council and Warwickshire County Council.

Steve Holland, from Advantage West Midlands, said the knock-on effects would be "phenomenal".

He said: "If we can get up to 7,000 people on site, we reckon there'll be at least a knock-on of another 7,000 people sort of indirectly employed as a result of that.

"It's a brilliantly-located site just off junction 2 of the M6. We've got some great universities locally."
