Warning over sex attack suspect

Brian Hughes

A man from Warwickshire wanted in connection with a series of suspected child sex offences, could be internet dating, police have warned.

Brian Hughes, originally from Rugby, is wanted for questioning over suspected sexual offences against children spanning a period of 40 years.

He went missing in 2007, aged 62 and featured on Crimewatch on 19 November.

He also has links to Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Mr Hughes is suspected of abusing children over four decades, and suspected of raping a young girl he groomed over a seven-year-period, police said.

Peter Herring, of the Warwickshire police child protection unit said: "We are aware of four victims, girls and boys, one of whom was four, but we fear there may be others who haven't come forward."

He added: "The appeal went really well and prompted a number of calls following the show.

"All lines of enquiry will be followed up and I would continue to actively encourage anyone who knows of the whereabouts of this man to contact police."
