Life-saving equipment on display

The Emergency Services Show

The latest life-saving equipment has been on show at an exhibition and conference on the emergency services.

The two-day Emergency Services Show 2008, which is not open to the public, is at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry.

It has brought together professional, government and voluntary emergency response organisations.

Items on show have included specialist equipment for people lifting obese patients and climbing technology which winches rescuers 200m (656ft) skywards.

There was also a high-pressure jet stream which enables firefighters to tackle fires behind walls and doors.

More than 300 specialist equipment suppliers were due to be showcasing technology on Wednesday and Thursday.

The show said the event, which was in its third year, has been promoting multi-agency collaboration within the UK's emergency services.

Event organiser David Brown said: "There's never going to be the perfect emergency service.

"Each incident does have its differences and it's a matter of learning from that."
