Posters, leaflets and text messages are being sent out to try and find anyone who saw how a man came to be injured.
Paul Smith, 54, of Biart Close, Rugby, Warwickshire, was found lying in Clifton Road in the town on Saturday. He died later in hospital.
Warwickshire Police said it was putting up 5,000 posters and 10,000 leaflets around Rugby in the hope someone would recognise CCTV pictures on them.
Five people were arrested over the matter. Four have since been bailed.
One, a 14-year-old boy, was arrested on Thursday evening and was being questioned.
Officers want to trace two males, one of them riding a BMX bike, who were in Clifton Road between 0035 BST and 0120 BST when Mr Smith was found lying on the pavement.
Officers also want to trace a man seen on CCTV who is thought to have followed the route from the town centre taken by Mr Smith but about two minutes later.
Mobile phone device Bluetooth is being used to send out text messages to anyone near Clifton Road to see if they can find any more witnesses.
