Settlement follows asthma death

An ambulance trust has paid a six-figure sum to a man whose wife died after suffering an asthma attack.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, then the Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance Trust, were called to Tracey Bereza's Coventry home on 11 April 2004.

The 41-year-old died four days later. Lawyers for father-of-three Roger Bereza complained about delays getting her to hospital.

The family and the ambulance trust reached an out of court settlement.

'Sincere regret'

A statement from the ambulance service said Mrs Bereza suffered an asthma attack after inhaling polish fumes.

The trust said it had written to Mr Bereza earlier this year about his claims and expressing its "sincere regret".

"In light of this case, further inquiries into the trust's protocols were undertaken to ensure the training and actions of staff are appropriate at all times," the statement said.

Lawyers for the family said they would continue to try and get an apology from the trust.
