Meeting over cuts to rail service

Virgin Trains' decision to cut off-peak services from Nuneaton into London could be taken to a judicial review.

In a timetable due to start in December all fast trains from the Warwickshire town to London will stop after 0900.

Nuneaton currently has at least one fast train per hour to London during the day. Passengers needing to reach London will have to go via Northampton.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Council was meeting on Wednesday to decide whether to take action over the cuts.

Keith Kondakor of the Nuneaton and Bedworth Rail Users Group said the changes were annoying.

"It means people who want to go to London in off-peak times will have to make a slower journey by going to Northampton.

"It's a disaster for people who want to take advantage of cheaper fares."

Virgin said the changes would help speed up and increase the frequency of its trains to major cities in the network.

A spokesman said the firm had been asked to provide a faster service to London on its West Coast Mainline which it was doing.
