Woman admits 'car surfing' death

Andrew Travers

A 19-year-old woman has been sentenced to nine months in a young offenders institution for causing the death of a teenager in a "car surfing" incident.

Andrew Travers suffered head injuries when he fell from the roof of a car driven by Emma Kimberley in Chesterton, Warwickshire, last June.

Kimberley, of Southam, Warwickshire, admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Warwick Crown Court.

She was also disqualified from driving for three years.

'Extremely talented'

Mr Travers died in hospital three days after his fall, which happened on a private road.

His parents said he was "extremely talented and bright" with a life "brimmed with possibilities".

Michelle and John Travers said he was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at the age of 10.

"By the time Andrew was 18 he had, despite difficulties, successfully forged an impressive and active life," they said.
