City centre blaze closes stores

Shoppers had to leave a city centre when a severe fire broke out in a mobile phones storeroom.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to a second floor storeroom at the Phones 4 U shop in Market Way, Coventry, on Tuesday morning.

Other shops in the area were allowed to reopen by mid-morning apart from the Boots store which was smoke-logged.

West Midlands Fire Service praised store staff for getting shoppers out of the shops safely.
