Woman arrested over baby's death

Artist's impression of Lilly A woman has been arrested by police investigating the case of Baby Lilly, whose body was found at a weir by the river Alne near Stratford.

The woman, who is from South Warwickshire, was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of concealing a birth.

Police named her Baby Lilly after her body was found in a plastic bag by the river at Aston Cantlow in May.

Det Insp Debra Tedds, leading the inquiry, called the arrest a "significant development".

Police said the arrest was made following analysis of DNA evidence.

Sensitive inquiry

Lilly's body was found on 11 May by a family out walking.

She had suffered severe injuries including a fractured skull and collarbone.

Children's and women's clothing were retrieved from the scene as well as other items including women's underwear and tea towels.

Ms Tedds said: "It is now vital that we continue our inquiries with the sensitivity that we promised from the outset when Baby Lilly's body was found.

"We are not able to release any further information about the woman in custody at this stage."

Officers from the Operation Windsor investigation team are questioning the woman.

The local community were so touched by the death they arranged a funeral for Baby Lilly, which took place at St Mary Magdalen church in Great Alne in September.
