A plan to combine a Cornish town's main post office with a nearby convenience store has been met with opposition from residents and local councillors.
Post Office Ltd wants to move the Falmouth branch, which is currently on the Moor, into the nearby Spar shop on Market Strand.
But Falmouth Town Council said it would challenge the plan as the new location would cause traffic problems.
Post Office Ltd said the move would end uncertainty about the branch's future.
"We won't go down without fighting"
Mike Varney, Mayor of Falmouth, said: "The proposed site is inferior, it's difficult to access and does not enjoy car parking provision.
"This will certainly result in severe traffic congestion and concerns for pedestrian safety.
"This to me seems to be a done deal but we won't go down without fighting."
In 2004, town councillors halted a previous plan to move the post office, but now Post Office Ltd says the existing premises are no longer available to lease.
The company said: "The move should end the uncertainty about the future of the branch and will continue to offer the same extensive range of products and services, supplemented by a supporting convenience store."
People have until 14 January to have their say on the proposals.
The move is scheduled for February.
