Cornish artists vying for prize

Tank on Fire by Tim Shaw

A sculpture by a Cornish artist inspired by a photo of a British soldier leaping from a burning tank has been shortlisted for a major art prize.

Tim Shaw's Tank on Fire has made the final seven in the Threadneedle Figurative Art prize.

Compassion Postponed by Nicholas Charles Williams, who is from Newquay, has also made the shortlist.

The winner of the £25,000 prize will be awarded to the artist who receives the largest share of public votes.

Votes can be cast at the exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, or online until 3 September.

The winner will be announced at an awards dinner on 3 September, hosted by Lauren Laverne from The Culture Show.

The winner of a second £10,000 prize - the Federation of British Artists Selectors' Choice - will also be announced that evening.

That prize is decided by a panel of judges including art critics Richard Cork and Brian Sewell.
