Thousands quit smoking in county

Nearly 4,000 people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly managed to give up smoking with help from the NHS last year.

The overall number of quitters across the wider region stood at more than 33,000 - up 9%.

The NHS data looked at people who managed to stop smoking through their local NHS service last year.

In Cornwall and on Scilly 3,973 smokers managed to quit successfully, with more than 6,650 setting a "quit date".

It represents about 11 people in the county quitting everyday.

About 60% of those who sought NHS help to stop smoking successfully quit - one of the highest figures in the region.
