'Lucky' underwear swimmer rescued

Porthminster beach, St Ives

A woman has been rescued after going for a swim in her underwear off the Cornish coast in the early hours.

The alarm was raised at about 0500 BST when friends of the woman lost sight of her off Porthminster Beach in St Ives.

The St Ives all weather lifeboat, the inshore lifeboat and coastguard rescue team were involved in the search.

Falmouth Coast said the woman, who is believed to have been drinking, was extremely lucky after an anchored boat picked her up. She was unhurt.
