Cameron's Cornish holiday starts

Samantha and David Cameron on beach

The Conservative leader David Cameron swapped the corridors of Westminster for a barefoot walk on a sandy beach as he began a holiday in Cornwall.

Mr Cameron and his wife, Samantha, posed for photographers on the rocks at Harlyn Bay beach, near Padstow, on the hottest day of the year so far.

They and their three children are due to spend a fortnight in the county.

Later in the summer they are expected to take a second, foreign holiday, believed to be to Turkey.

The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, is currently taking his summer holiday in Suffolk on the east coast.

The Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg, is travelling to Spain next week to visit the parents of his Spanish wife, Miriam Gonzalez Durantez.
