Girl, 16, held after beach death

Par beach

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the death of a man who was found on a beach in Cornwall with serious head injuries.

Police are also holding a 20-year-old man on suspicion of murder after the injured man was found on Par Beach near St Austell on Saturday evening.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 20s, was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he later died.

Anyone who was in the Par Beach area at the time is asked to contact police.

Devon and Cornwall Police are in the process of contacting the man's next-of-kin.

Det Supt Steve Carey said: "We are still keen to speak to anyone who has information for us.

"In particular we want to talk to anyone who may have seen a violent altercation near a bench between the beach and the holiday village sometime before 9.30pm on Saturday night."
