Concern grows for missing man, 78

Charles Barkwill

A search for a missing 78-year-old man has entered its second day with police and rescue teams saying they are increasingly concerned for his welfare.

Charles Barkwill is from Launceston in Cornwall and was last seen at 1100 BST on Friday near the Arch in the town.

He is described as 5ft 2in tall, with short, grey hair and is believed to be wearing a brown coat and tweed cap.

Cornwall Search and Rescue team has been searching for him since Friday with the police helicopter.

A police spokesperson said the force was "increasingly concerned" for his welfare.

"(We) are asking residents to check their gardens and outbuildings. Charles has a speech impediment due to a medical condition," he said.
