Jobs to go at light manufacturer

About 40 employees at a manufacturing company in Cornwall are to lose their jobs next month.

Fitzgerald Lighting currently employs about 460 people, with the majority based at its headquarters in Bodmin.

Peter Fitzgerald, from the company, told BBC News the company had begun advanced negotiations with members of its works committee and employees.

He said outside events such as economic conditions, imports and currency had influenced the company.

Mr Fitzgerald said the aim was to improve production levels and efficiency, but reduce overhead cost in line with customer needs.

Another 20 jobs are expected to go through "natural wastage".
