Crews have tackled a fire at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
The alarm was raised just before 0300 BST and engines were sent from Redruth, Perranporth, Falmouth and Newquay.
The flames broke out in rubbish bins in the hospital's Trelawney Wing. The blaze was contained by fire doors and the building was not evacuated.
Corridors were heavily smoke-logged and a member of staff suffered an asthma attack. Firefighters ventilated the area using fans.
