Thousands of people attended a leaving party for the Bishop of Truro, the Right Reverend William Ind.
The Eden Project in Cornwall hosted the farewell event on Sunday with a gospel choir, brass band and a specially-adapted 'bishop buggy'.
Arriving at Eden in the buggy topped with the bishop's headwear, "Bishop Bill" as he is known, said he had mixed feelings about going.
"It's rather like being alive at your own funeral," he said.
He had led the Truro Diocese for 10 years.
The event was held at Eden because Truro Cathedral was too small for the 4,000 well-wishers who joined the farewell party.
Bishop Bill, 66, gave his final sermon at Truro Cathedral at the end of March.
He and his wife Frances are planning to move to Wiltshire to be near their three sons and their respective families.
