Public toilet sold for £120,000

Restormel Borough Council is selling the toilet block in East Street, Newquay, to London-based property developer Aedifico.

The block will be knocked down and will form part of a larger development of shops and accommodation.

Ian Stackhouse, the council's regeneration officer, said the deal was still to be completed but the price had been agreed.

'Reasonable price'

"We discussed and concluded that £120,000 would be enough to provide new toilets in the area and cover our cost," he said.

"I think it's a reasonable price.

"You can value the area as it is now and as a development site, the money will be used to build new toilets but I would like to remind everyone the final deal has not been done yet."

Aedifico said they have never bought a public toilet before and plan to replace it with a "landmark building".
