Islanders make broadband switch
People in the Isles of Scilly are switching to ADSL broadband technology faster than anywhere in the country, BT has said.
Figures released by the telecom firm show 47.2% of homes in the islands are switching to ADSL, ahead of Oxfordshire at 46.7% and Cornwall at 45.9%.
In Somerset and Buckinghamshire 45.7% of homes have ADSL broadband and 42.5% in Wiltshire.
Broadband is available via ADSL, cable TV, satellite or with a 3G card.
The most common way to get broadband is via ADSL.
The national average take-up rate for ADSL broadband is 31.2%, BT says.
A BT spokesman said broadband technology was helping people and businesses overcome problems encountered by living in remote locations.
