A Cornish MP has defended her decision to follow in the footsteps of fellow MP George Galloway by agreeing to take part in a reality television programme.
Lib Dem Julia Goldsworthy, the Falmouth and Camborne MP, says her parliamentary work will remain "top priority" during Channel Four's, The Games.
Ms Goldsworthy, who is 27, will raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance, during the nine-day show in March.
Other contestants include Darren Day, Bernie Nolan and Michelle Gayle.
"Anything that makes MPs appear more like human beings has got to be a good thing"
They will then compete each night before a live audience to win medals and win money for their chosen charities.
"I was asked to take part and it is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance," said Ms Goldsworthy.
"I made absolutely sure there was going to be no impact on my parliamentary work, which is obviously my top priority.
"Everyone will still be able to contact me in the same way they can now."
She added that once the show was airing she would be spending time with her staff every day and keeping up with her constituency work.
Raise profile
"I hope I'm leading by example, showing it is possible to fit a healthy lifestyle into a very busy life.
"Anything that makes MPs appear more like human beings has got to be a good thing."
She said the show was "not comparable" to Big Brother as she would not be cut off from the outside world.
John Pope, Liberal Democrat county councillor for Camborne North, welcomed Ms Goldsworthy's participation on the project
"I think it's marvellous, anything raising the profile of Cornwall is a great thing, we are trying to promote fitness and health and this will really help.
"I would like to do it myself, and I wish her the best of luck."
