£15m grain storage centre opens

A farmers' co-operative in Cambridgeshire has opened a multi-million pound grain storage and processing centre.

Camgrain's £15m facility at Wilbraham will be supplying all of the wheat for flour used in Sainsbury's bakeries, as well as other major brands.

The 355 members of the co-operative will process 90,000 tonnes of locally grown wheat at the centre each year.

The wheat will be cleaned, dried and stored at the site near Cambridge.

Camgrain hopes to expand the centre further, making it one of the largest processing facilities in the UK.

The £15m investment was supported by East of England Development Agency and Rural Development funding.
