Cycle path attacker raped victim

A woman in her 20s assaulted on a cycle path in Peterborough was also raped, police have revealed.

The woman was attacked on the path, parallel to Gresley Way, at about 0320 BST on Tuesday.

A man grabbed her from behind as she was walking and forced her to the ground.

She fell unconscious and when she awoke phoned for help and the police were called. Further investigation revealed the woman was raped by the attacker.

He is described as white, aged between 19 and 23, 5ft 9in tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a white baseball cap, a light-coloured zip-up top and light coloured bottoms.

Det Insp Simon Harding, of Cambridgeshire Police, urged anyone with information about the attack to contact officers.

He added that anyone going out after dark should stick to well-lit and busy areas.
