Residents to debate waste plant

A public debate is set to be held on a proposal to build an energy-from-waste plant in Cambridgeshire.

Residents will speak alongside the company behind plans for the energy park on a 13 hectare site (32 acre) off Storey's Bar Road, Peterborough.

Peterborough Renewable Energy Ltd said the facility would be capable of processing or recycling up to 650,000 tonnes of waste.

Peterborough City Council will decide its position on the plant next month.

The meeting on Tuesday evening will be held at Peterborough Town Hall.

Comments from the extraordinary meeting of Peterborough City Council will be submitted to a meeting of the council's cabinet on 2 February prior to a final recommendation being made to the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

The department will make the final decision on whether the plant is built.

Peterborough Renewable Energy says it would generate 66 megawatts of electricity annually.
