Woman beaten in armed store raid

A female member of staff at a store in Cambridgeshire was repeatedly hit over the head during a violent robbery.

Customers and staff were forced to lie on the ground during the raid at the Spar in Capuchin Court, Cherry Hinton.

Four men armed with roof rack parts, wood spars and a fire extinguisher took money from a till and personal items from people in the shop.

The injured woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for treatment and later released.

The gang fled in a red Mazda 646 that was found shortly afterwards in High Ditch, Fen Ditton, three miles away.

The raiders were described as white and wore masks made from back or beige jogging trouser legs with eye holes cut in them, a police spokeswoman said.

"Two wore dark jackets and blue jeans, one had black trousers and a beige jacket and the fourth, the most violent member of the gang, a navy and red fleece with blue jeans."

Police said they want to find the masks as they might carry clues to the identities of the raiders.
