'Rosie' celebrates silver jubilee

A maternity unit where 100,000 babies have been born is celebrating its silver jubilee.

The Rosie at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge was set up in 1983 with the help of a £3m donation by local benefactor David Robinson.

The unit, which has a 17 cot intensive care wing, is looking for expansion.

Clinical director Dr Gerald Hackett said demand for its services were unprecedented and plans were being laid down to grow in key areas.

"We want a birthing unit on the ground floor and a foetal scanning unit while at the same time expanding our facilities for very premature babies."
