Arrests in trafficking campaign

A national police campaign against sex trafficking has led to the arrest of 41 people in Cambridgeshire over the past 10 months.

Cambridgeshire Police began Operation Radium in August in an attempt to stop the trade and rescue victims.

As well as arrests, officers have to date rescued 12 victims, three of whom were children, a police spokesman said.

Across England, Scotland and Wales about 500 arrests were made as part of the campaign, the Home Office said.

More than 160 victims were rescued as part of the campaign.

Det Ch Insp Kevin Vanterpool, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "Our operation has proved a real success and has meant we have rescued 12 victims from a life of exploitation.

"We have also arrested 41 people which has had an impact on the sex trafficking trade and those behind it.

"Although the national campaign is now over, work in Cambridgeshire will continue to target those involved in human trafficking and their victims."
