Plans to develop city on display

Plans to deal with the growth of a Cambridgeshire city from 18,000 residents to 20,000 over the next 20 years are to go on display.

Details of the route of a new southern link road and new leisure facilities in Ely will be available for examination and comment for the next six weeks.

Exhibitions in libraries and market stalls show the Ely Masterplan, and a questionnaire is available for comment.

Council leaders said they want a full and frank discussion of the ideas.

Peter Moakes, chairman of the strategic development committee at East Cambridgeshire District Council, said: "The Ely Masterplan is about making the city a better place to live and work in.

"But it can only succeed if we work together to create it. This is why an open, honest and full consultation period is vital.

"In the vision for the future, the document talks about building new office space, homes and creating new leisure activities.

"It also highlights areas where this development should take place - what we are keen to find out is whether the public agree with the plan.

"We want to hear from as many people as possible who can give us their views about whether the Masterplan is looking to develop the right things."
