Hospital announces bed shortage
A Cambridgeshire hospital said that it was forced into declaring a black alert - which means there are no extra beds.
Management at Addenbrooke's Hospital put the trust on its highest alert after an influx of emergency cases on Wednesday afternoon.
Letters were also sent out to GPs asking them to refer patients only if absolutely necessary.
The status has since been downgraded to red - meaning emergency and clinically urgent patients will be admitted.
No planned operations were cancelled during the black alert.
